Lead Infrastructure Engineer
Up to £55,000 + Benefits | Devon | Full-time
The Opportunity
This is a key role within a busy environment where infrastructure underpins day-to-day operations and is an exciting opportunity to make improvements and really shape the direction of travel for the business from an infrastructure perspective.
You’ll take ownership of the organisation’s infrastructure and backend systems, ensuring they are reliable, secure and scalable, while also playing a key role in how the environment evolves over time.
The position is predominantly hands-on with an element of leadership, giving you the opportunity to stay close to the technology whilst influencing direction and supporting others.
What You’ll Be Doing
Infrastructure Delivery & Projects
- Lead the implementation and deployment of infrastructure solutions
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with design, timelines and business needs
- Carry out testing and validation to ensure performance and reliability
Maintenance & Optimisation
- Own monitoring, alerting and proactive issue resolution
- Manage patching, upgrades and ongoing system maintenance
- Analyse performance and plan for future capacity requirements
Security & Compliance
- Embed security best practices across infrastructure environments
- Support vulnerability management, testing and risk mitigation
- Ensure alignment with relevant standards and regulatory requirements
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a small team
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver infrastructure solutions
- Contribute to architectural and technology decisions
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain clear documentation across systems and processes
- Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the team
What They’re Looking For
- Proven experience in infrastructure engineering within a fast paced and ever-changing environment and strong knowledge of:
- Virtualisation
- Cloud platforms
- Networking, storage and backend systems
- Experience supporting highly available environments
- Good understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practice
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
